A LESSON WELL LEARNED

Last Saturday night February 20, 2010 at Sazi's Bar was a blast from the past as old long time friends from way back came in to be part of the revelry as the Singapore based pinoy hardcore band from Malolos, Bulacan launch their much anticipated 3rd album offering entitled BACK TO KINDERGARTEN as they pay homage to the architects of Philippine punk rock.

Present that day consist of a veritable who's who of the underground scene. The pioneers that started it all Arnold Morales along with members of the Sex Militants, Radzon Medina along with members of Hard K, Al Dimalanta, Dennis Maniego, Edmond Araullo, Ricky Araullo and Mel Maniego of Private Stock, Jun Idiot of G.I. and The Idiots, Allan Roldan of M.A.D. with his band Against Man. The Slabs, The Mandalondon Crew, MNHC crew, The Kalookan City punks, and The Tandem /Cartimar Recto Punks.

The vibe in the air was thick with warm smiles, cold non stop overflowing of booze, slam dancing and drunken sing along as bands after bands played with wanton abandon much to the delight of each individual that was there to witness history.

I can not write about exactly what had happen last Saturday because it is much better if you were present that day to experience it first hand seeing and hearing the awesome power of what punk rock really is.

This is what punk is all about. A lesson well learned that i had applied in my daily life. Its a great thing punk had happened because without it everything went unchallenged. To borrow King Blues phrase on punk rock:

" If only the 4 Skins had told us ACAB, If only The Ramones had let us know we were a happy family, If only The Buzzcocks had shown us how to do it ourself, If only Crass had shown us there are things more important than wealth, If only The Vandals had shown us it was OK to smile, If only The Dead Kennedys had helped us put our government on trial, If only Rancid had played live, and brought with them that vibe, If we had Sick Of It All and Madball we could put them all on the frontline, If we had GG Allin we’d have learned it’s OK to be hated, If we’d have had The Refused then we could have innovated, If we’d had Poison Idea then they couldn’t push us over, If we’d had Minor Threat then we could have done it sober, If we’d have had Against Me we could have done it all unplugged, If we’d had Operation Ivy we could have done it then fucked off, If we had The Blitz, The Clash, Disorder, Propagandhi,The Exploited, NOFX and anyone that’s handy, There’s a lesson to be learned, one that I will take home,"
